Choosing a university is only half the decision. The programme itself — at the campus where you will actually study — also needs to be checked. Malaysia provides a public tool for this: the Malaysian Qualifications Register, or MQR.

What the MQR tells you

The Malaysian Qualifications Agency describes the MQR as the national reference point for accredited programmes and qualifications. A record can show the institution, qualification name, field, level, mode and duration of study, credit requirements and the accreditation validity period.

That means a convincing brochure or familiar university name should never be your only evidence. Search the exact qualification and compare the MQR entry with the offer you received.

A five-minute verification routine

  1. Search by the institution name and the exact programme title.
  2. Match the campus or delivery location. MQA notes that accreditation is location-specific unless the register states otherwise.
  3. Check the qualification level and mode of study.
  4. Read the accreditation dates and reference number.
  5. Save or print the record with your application documents.

If a programme does not appear

An absent result does not automatically prove that a programme is invalid. MQA explains that a newer programme may still hold Provisional Accreditation and may not yet have reached the stage for Full Accreditation. Check the provisional-accreditation portal or ask the institution for its MQA reference, then verify that reference independently.
